The king returns! Darn it! That makes an already tough week even tougher. And for some reason Tucker & Dale vs Evil isn’t a wide release! I want to see that one but can only find it at a dinky college theater 20 miles from home. Tempted to take a mulligan, but I’m stubborn. Maybe I’ll pull a Jonathan and just randomly pull movies out of a hat again…

Here are my picks:
1.) What’s Your Number?
2.) Lion King 3-D
3.) Dolphin Tale
4.) 50/50
5.) Moneyball

Mrs. Beast is predicting 2 of the new releases won’t make the top 5.

Mrs. Beast’s picks for the weekend of September 30 – October 2, 2011:
1. Lion King 3D
2. 50/50
3. Dream House
4. Moneyball
5. Dolphin Tale

Late! Not that skipping wouldn’t be a good idea, but…
1) Dolphin Tale- still has the most theaters, and I think the unexpected return of the lion king cuases that to drop off
2) Moneyball- Brad Pitt + positive reviews keep this near the top
3) Lion King 3D- want to leave this out of the list, can’t
4) 50/50- looks good, good reviews, promoted well, but low theater count, can’t get past kids movies or baseball
5) Dream House- The Anna Farris thing is in more of theaters but I saw zero promotion. The commercials for this look like they tell the whole tale, but at least I saw commercials.

And finally, Menolly snakes in under the wire….

Menolly’s picks for the weekend of September 30 – October 2, 2011:
1. What’s Your Number
2. Lion King
3. 50/50
4. Dolphin Tale
5. Abduction

wow. we are all screwed this weekend, except BD.

on the upside, sausagefest must have been pretty wild, as they haven’t posted anything since…

whooohooo go dolphin! 🙂
I’m glad I dodged the Anna Farris thing– it occurred to me that comparisons to the House Bunny wouldn’t work- the audiences are completely different (it was either that or the Emma Stone factor. I mean, look at The Help….)

And I think Jonathan should get a recount- if he hadn’t reversed his random picks he’d have done great!

Sausagefest 2 was a great thing. I’m still recovering.

Congrats to BD for being a visionary with last week’s picks.

Well, not having seen anything for the main show posted this week, I’m guessing that the hosts are still recovering from Sausagefest 2.

Or from the total bloodbath that was the scores for last week…I’m shocked I did well enough to make it to the top ten. Even if I am tied with “The Talent.”

Hopefully, this comment will be found in sufficient time for it to be submitted.

1) Real Steel – Is it sad that I think this film, for which I’ve seen ads for at least three or four months, will come out on top? Rock ’em Sock ’em Robots the Motion Picture for victory by knock-out. It’s been a while since we’ve seen Hugh Jackman on the big screen, and the script looks sufficiently decent with family-oriented plot points and big robots battling it out, so why not?

2) Moneyball – Excellent film, solid cast, and broad appeal. I’m guessing it will stay at #2.

3) Dolphin Tale – More money from the kiddies on this one.

4) The Ides of March – A political thriller that initially appears far too intellectual or far too similar to real life to be interesting. Don’t get me wrong, excellent casting with Clooney, Gosling, Giamatti, & Thomas, but it does not look like a film that will end on a good note. Not the sort of thing most people want to watch when the WWF Cage Match of GOP Primaries are moving along for the 2012 season.

5) 50/50 – This looks like as good a pick as any to stick around in the bottom of the top 5. I’m slowly becoming interested in it despite my general dislike of Seth Rogen.
