This dittoing business is seeming to be too easy…

1) Avengers – Hulk smash battleship!

2) Battleship – Let’s hear it for the US Navy’s very own Michael Bay flick! The Air Force has Transformers, the Army has G.I. Joe, the Marines have Battle: LA, so the Navy gets Battleship.

3) What to Expect When You Are Expecting – Can we find a longer title, please? This one isn’t long enough.

4) The Dictator – Sascha Baron Cohen needs to find a new hobby. I never liked any of his other stuff in this vein (Borat, Bruno, etc) and this just looks stupid.

5) Dark Shadows – I think BD’s right, I think Burton & Depp are just lazy at this point. Not that I don’t think it was bad, it’s wouldn’t have been noticeable if it hadn’t been a summer flick. Crank this out in Feb/March and it would have fit right in.

Just to reiterate what I posted Monday (freakin morning!) in a place where someone might see it:
Ok, I’m gonna risk a limb here. My picks for the weekend of 5/18-5//20. Ditto time!
1) Avengers- yeah, still.
2) Battleship- can’t take out Captain freakin’ America.
3) The Dictator- could surprise. Or do people still remember “Bruno”?
4) Dark Shadows- Depp & Burton: have they just gotten lazy?

Yeah, I’m gonna ‘ditto’ Tony, tho’ Lena’s #5 pick did kinda tempt me…
1) Avengers- no question. Holding #1 for next week is my question now (Monty thinks it will. Maybe he should see that Battleship trailer again….)

2) Dark Shadows- pretty much exactly agree with CougRon, except that I couldn’t even bear to sit through the trailer.

3) Think Like a Man- what else? Steady drops put it at about $4 million, and it actually ADDED screens.

4) Pirates!- lack of smaller kid fare and more screens means Hunger Games drops past this one.

5) Hunger Games- thought about Lucky One for this, as Hunger Games is dropping theaters, but HG has crossover with (possibly sold out) Avengers screenings and has shown consistently smaller drops week to week, where LO is steadily dropping at about 50%.

Monty dittoed me, and daHobbit dittoed him, oorrr we all ‘ditto’ Tony, but really, we ALL are ‘ditto’ to last week’s 25, Father Beast~!

Saw an interesting stat that every movie that has gotten over $120 million its first weeks has declined by over 50% it’s second weekend and none has ever had a $100 million second weekend. Will be interesting to see Avengers be the first…

My picks:

One: The Avengers – Assemble!
Two: Dark Shadows – It would take a _MAJOR_ miracle for this to even come close to the Avengers. Plus I’m hearing some pretty bad reviews. Shame, I was almost prepared to like it after the trailers…
The rest seem fairly straight forward:
Three: Think Like A Man
Four: Hunger Games
Five: Pirates! Band of Misfits.

I think that Hunger games can hold on to more of its 10.8 Mil in its -what, 6th week? than Pirates can hold onto of its 11.1 Mil in its first week. I figure the drop from first to second week is usually the biggest.
Same logic applies to the tussle between 5 Year Engagement and lucky 1.

Astonishingly, I haven’t dittoed anyone I know of, Though Jeff seems to have taken the ultimate safe route and moved the rest down one.

Gee, I wonder what #1 should be? Should I test the Green lantern rule and see? (Especially since I haven’t listened yet and have no idea what was said about any of this.)

1) Avengers- duh. and I expect to be picking it #1 for next week too.
2) Think Like a Man- only pick from last week not in the ~$11 morass. Even if it drops big, the others drop lower.
3) Pirates!- kids movie. Those have legs (or in this case, peg legs.)
4) Hunger Games- continues trend of slow drops, as girlfriends go see this instead of a third screening of Avengers.
5) Lucky One- sorry! But ’5 Year’ tanked. And this has appeal to the girlfriends who don’t go see Hunger Games again.

Looking down the barrel of the start of the summer movie season, I’d best not forget to play this week.

1) Avengers – Dude, seriously, what else is there? Anything that can de-throne the Avengers ain’t doing it for at least two weeks.

2) Think like a Man – Why not? No one apparently thought this movie would do all that well on its initial release, so it may hang on.

3) Pirates! Band of Misfits – Not to be confused with Pirates!, from Sid Meier Entertainment. Kid movie + Summer = longer survival than expected.

4) The Five-Year Engagement – Don’t care. Judd Apatow needs to find someone other than Jason Segel to work with. Or Seth Rogen. That schlubby-loser male role is starting to make me want to throw up.

5) The Lucky One – Lucky I haven’t had to see this movie so far.

Better late then never…. Will listen to it as soon as I get through some of my other podcasts. This is my favorite show of the week so I’ll probably listen to it several times.

I posted this elsewhere, but it looks like everyone who picked Five Year Engagement for number one this week just got a boot to the head. The estimates were all close though so I’m hoping the actuals will blunt the blow…

Also calling it now, Avengers will be #1 next weekend, by a very large margin.

Ok, lets do this;
1) Think Like a Man- I can;t see this dropping below $17 or $18 million.
2) 5 Year Reunion- and I can’t see this breaking $20 million, especially since I’d never heard of it before last week.
3) Pirates; Bands of Misfits- kids’ movie, lots of theaters, and Arthur Christmas did well enough, if I recall.
4) Lucky One- falls to here, around $10. Sure, why not?
5) Safe- Statham being Statham, so a pick over The Raven (which I can’t pick w/o knowing what Andrew (vs. Relativity) picked!) and Hunger Games (shedding theaters finally.)
