Back Seat Box Office #2

My picks for this weekend

  1. The Social Network
  2. Let Me In
  3. Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps
  4. The Town
  5. Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole

Last week, I was 2 for 5 and all 5 movies I picked to be in the top five were in the top five.

Thanks for listening!

Not bad.. prelim reports have you with 1,3, and 4 right on the money, with #2 and #5 surprising you. One thing I noticed was that when a friend of mine looked up Let me In, the promo text he read hid the true nature of the film, making it seem like a coming of age flick with two disenfranchised youths finding friendship.(I don’t have the source but he read it from a website that he trusted to get the plot.) That type of marketing may have backfired.

Also, there are no other kids movies out, it is slim pickings for kids this time of year. So that could explain why it held on so well. None of the other movies out there are going to be eating into that market, so until another kids movie comes out, the owl movie will degrade slower that most other flix.

It’s funny, the reason I used to keep LotG in the top five AT ALL was the same reason that is likely it stayed at the #2 spot. Granted, it was close. I’m actually pretty happy to see that it stayed strong in its second week. We saw it opening weekend and enjoyed the ride, glad to see others are getting to see it on the big screen too.

If that is how they marketed Let Me In, then they shot themselves in the foot. Why would you market a HORROR movie like that in OCTOBER!? That’s just nonsensical.

For how far off I was with a few of my picks, I find it really funny that I have a better spot for spot percentage than last week.

Thanks for the feedback!
