Weekend Box Office: July 15-17

#1 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 from Warner Brother debuts at #1 with an opening weekend gross of $169.1 million in 4375 theaters. Budget is unknown.

#2 Transformers: Dark of the Moon from Paramount/Dreamworks drops from #1 to #2 with a weekend gross of $21.3 million (-54.7%) in 3917 theaters (-171). Total gross to date is $302.8 million. Budget was $195 million.

#3 Horrible Bosses from Warner Brother drops from #2 to #3 with a weekend gross of $17.7 million (-37.2%) in 3134 theaters (+94). Total gross to date is $60.1 million. Budget was $35 million.

#4 Zookeeper from Sony drops from #3 to #4 with a weekend gross of $12.3 million (-38.5%) in 3482 theaters (no change). Total gross to date is $42.3 million. Budget was $80 million.

#5 Cars 2 from Buena Vista drops from #4 to #5 with a weekend gross of $8.4 million (-44.7%) in 3249 theaters (-741). Total gross to date is $165.3 million. Budget was $200 million.

#6 Winnie the Pooh from Buena Vista debuts at #6 with an opening weekend gross of $7.8 million in 2405 theaters. Budget was $30 million.

Rounding out the top 12 are:

#7 Bad Teacher drops from #5 to #7 with a weekend gross of $5.1 million (-42.2%) in 2659 theaters (-303). Total gross to date is $88.4 million. Budget was $20 million.

#8 Larry Crowne drops from #6 to #8 with a weekend gross of $2.6 million (-55.1%) in 2287 theaters (-689). Total gross to date is $31.7 million. Budget was $30 million.

#9 Super 8 drops from #7 to #9 with a weekend gross of $1.9 million (-59.3%) in 1459 theaters (-833). Total gross to date is $122.2 million. Budget was $50 million.

#10 Midnight in Paris jumps from #11 to #10 with a weekend gross of $1.8 million (-28.8%) in 706 theaters (-113). Total gross to date is $41.7 million. Budget was $30 million.

#11 Bridesmaids jumps from #12 to #11 with a weekend gross of $1.7 million (-34.5%) in 872 theaters (-230). Total gross to date is $161.3 million. Budget was $32.5 million.

#12 Mr. Popper’s Penguins drops from #9 to #12 with a weekend gross of $1.3 million (-56.6%) in 1002 theaters (-994). Total gross to date is $61.4 million. Budget was $55 million.

The combined gross of the top 12 movies this weekend was $251.6 million (+72.7%).

New movies debuting in wide release this weekend are Captain America: The First Avenger and Friends with Benefits.
