Again, a week with several fairly big releases. I must admit to a bit of glee in seeing scoring go a little bit wider in variety due to the increase in numbers of movies released after the summer’s blockbusters.

1) Conan the Barbarian – I admit it, I think Conan will be come as the last gasp of summer action films, and bring the beat-down to the Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I don’t care how strong or smart the apes are, they are just apes. All things fall to the savage sword of Conan. Jason Momoa, after his time on Stargate: Atlantis and as Khal Drogo on The Game of Thrones, is an excellent Conan.

2) The Help – Strong buzz and interest I think will keep this afloat longer than Apes.

3) Rise of the Planet of the Apes – It will submit to Conan. The last week’s 49% drop, while not likely to be repeated, would indicate that it is losing momentum. Now, apes, go sulk in the corner and throw poo if you like, but you ain’t Conan.

4) Spy Kids : All the Time in the World – Honestly, I don’t know where to put this. It will either do middling, or horribly. It has been something like 8 years since the last one, and 11 years since the first Spy Kids film. Even with Jessica Alba, I’m just uncertain.

5) Fright Night – This could just as easily take a swan dive off the chart. It may be my Dylan Dog, but the look is fairly solid, and Anton Yelchin & Colin Farrell would be an interesting pair-up for an old-school vampire flick.
