Haven’t listened to the episode yet, going to put in my picks before I do so:

1) Sherlock Holmes 2 – There can be no question, my dear Watson, that this movie will be number 1.
2) Chipwrecked – *shudder*. I’ve managed to avoid the first two and I hope to continue that with the third one but a lot of families won’t.
3) New Years Eve – should probably drop fast. Was tempted to put it number for in favor of…
4) MI3:Ghost Protocol – I was really really really tempted to leave this off as a safety pick. At only 400-some theaters this could real easy be way down there. But I’ve really liked what i’ve seen in the commercials even if the plot seems like a rehash of the first one so I’m giving it a chance. Will probably do better next week.
5) The Sitter – Saw this movie last weekend and regretted it. Won’t last long.

I’m SO tempted to just say “what Jeff said” but nooooo I can’t keep from running off at the keyboard:

1) Sherlock 2- no way I can put the ‘munks in #1.

2) Chipdrecked- not that the squeaky little ****ers won’t get #2.

3) MI4:GP- it’s not that I think that this will go crazy with so few theaters, but that everything else will do less. IMAX + higher price tix + Dark Knight preview + high interest/good reviews = something like $10 mil.

4) New Year’s Eve- while I think Young Adult should go here, the softness of The Descendents makes me think that this, like that one, will have a longer life, but not the high life. NYE gets it by default.

5) The Sitter- again, the ***** slot to pick. Arthur Christmas has that crazy small drop last week and lost relatively fewer theaters, plus the kids movie (that’s not chipmunks- a powerful incentive) AND a holiday movie too (see: Hop, this is how it edges out Muppets), but even at a 60% drop The Sitter is still in the hunt, it even gained a couple theaters and since it opened poorly there’s not an inflated balloon of audience to lose this week. And this: If I pick The Sitter Tony CAN’T POSSIBLY CATCH ME (this week). Boom! Done.

You know- I still like the Secret Santa picks idea- you could do a reverse-Santa, where everyone picks, but the picks randomly go to someone else (of course, the penalty to yourself idea is good too.)

So I went to BoxOfficeMojo, double checked what movies are coming out. was shocked at M:I4’s theatre count, and cfame here to post my picks. I started skimming though the above comments and thought”Should I change my picks?” or “Should I throw them out and say ‘Ditto [insert name (who are we kidding, it’d be BD) here]’?”
But . . . no. I’ll stick to my guns. How can I stay the low man on the totem pole unless I commit to it.

So here we go.
1) AatC3. It’s a family film directed at the kids and so therefore we’ll get the kid ticket money and the parent ticket money. it’s all in the maths.

When making my notes I had accidently typed AotC3 and my mind told myself “Whoa . . . Attack of the clones got two sequals aside from Revenge of the Sith. Must be like a Brotherhood/Revelations thing…. I so wish instead of Chipmunks there was more Clone Troopers and Sith.

2) Sherlock. First one was big. This will be what all the other kids who are too old for the squeeky munks will see. so that’s some maths…

3) New Years Eve. Gang busters last week, it’ll keep it’s momentum up a bit.

4) Twilight. ’cause it’s twilight. even if the books are better than the movies (that’s not saying much).

5. Muppets. Nostalgia is awesome. and Muppets are back baby.

Noticeable exclusions to the top five are Mission Impossible and Young Adult. I think both these movies look good, but just don’t have the theatre count to break the top five. Tom Cruise might suprize me…. we’ll see.

Here are my picks:

1 – Sherlock Holmes 2
2 – Alvin & the Chipmunks 3
3 – Mission: Impossible 4
4 – New Year’s Eve
5 – The Sitter

Even though I’m being dragged out to see Young Adult today, I still don’t think it will be #5… I hope. I’d rather see Sherlock Holmes.
