Looking at the new release for this week (The Devil Inside), I think this weekend will be much like the previous weekends of the holiday season.

1) Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol – Because there is nothing else out there to topple it.

2) Alvin & the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked – I feel dirty just writing this…

3) Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows – Sherlock, I love you, but I think the engine is running down after this long at the box office. Stronger drop than Alvin, due to more competition at the box office for its audience.

4) Girl with the Dragon Tattoo – In all likelihood, better written and produced than The Devil Inside, and probably more disturbing. While I am not disturbed by its “rapeyness”(spelling?), I don’t think that a simple possession or series of possessed people undergoing exorcisms is going to better at the box office.

5) Warhorse – Spielberg’s Oscar effort, I’ve heard this called. I still want to see this, and after missing Hugo at the theater, I need to make the effort.

That’s all I know, and I’m sticking to it.

Well, it’s the week to make crazy predictions, so here goes,
My picks for the weekend of January 6 – 9, 2012:
1. Mission Impossible
2. Sherlock Holmes
3. Devil Inside
4. Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
5. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

hey, it could happen….

Mrs. Beast’s picks for the weekend of January 6 – 9, 2012:
1. Mission Impossible
2. Sherlock Holmes
3. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
4. Alvin + The Chipmunks
5. Girl w/ The Dragon Tattoo

So, apparently, even though I listed what my picks were last week during the results show, I had never actually posted them.

Whoops.

So here we are, and I’m posting them. And after much delibieration, I can say that Uriah makes sense (I arrived at the same five independantly.) so ditto Uriah.

See Andrew, someone thinks I make sense in my picks!

But seriously now, what else is there? Next week, that’s where the complexity starts back up again.

“Alvin & the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked – I feel dirty just writing this…”

Uriah- you should get a quote of the week award or something. (Hey, that could go in the weekly top 5 post!)

and I’d guess it’s “rapeiness” though I have NO idea what books you’d use to check? Strunk & White are sure to come up short….
