I am totally not prepared for this weeks. Looks like there are four ‘new’ movies to watch: One I’ve seen a lot of commericals for, two I’ve seen some commercials for and one I knew nothing about until two minutes ago. Makes this extremely hard to pick for me and I’m going to make them before listening to the podcast.

Here are my poorly informed picks:
1) Underworld Awakening – Hot chick in tight leather with guns. ’nuff said.
2) Red Tails – Seen a few commercials for this. Seems to be about fighter pilots flying protection patrols for bombers during WWII
3) Contraband – I figure this will fall to number three or number four. My initial thought was to put it at fourth but I’ve decided I’m taking a chance and say it will only fall to third.
4) Extremely Load & Incredibly Close – Seen a few commercials for this recently too. Seems to be a boy trying to remember some sort of lessons his father was teaching him before dying in the twin towers on 9-11.
5) Beauty and The Beast 3d – saw this last week and it was gorgeously done. Loved it. But I’m thinking not a lot of families are going to go out in the weather and they maybe tired right now of 3d gimmicks, even if they are well done.

Decided not to put Haywire on the list. Thought I had not seen the anything before today but I realized I recognized the trailer after I started watching it. From my perspective there seems to be little or no advertising, so I’m thinking not many are going to see it.

my picks for the weekend of January 20 – 22, 2012:
1. Underworld
2. Loud And Close
3. Beauty And The Beast
4. Red Tails
5. Contraband

Menolly’s picks for the weekend of Januray 20 – 22, 2012:
1. Redtails
2. Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
3. Contraband
4. Underworld: Awakening
5. Beauty & Beast

So I know that I’m going to probably get the LOWEST score ever with my picks, but I’ll defend my choice by saying this is how I WANT the box office to be

1. Haywire – Oh yes Gina Carino . . . she is my choice for Wonder Woman . . . someone in Hollywood make that so.
2. Underworld – Vampires, Werewolves . . . and no one sparkles!
3. Red Tails – What is the one thing we know about George Lucas? the ONE thing? He knows how to make a dogfight movie. ( for reference, I give you the end of A New Hope)
4. Contraband – it was in 1st last week, and it’ll drop, but not enough to drop out of the top five.
5. Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close – Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock family friendly movie.

So, my first time joining “the festivities” I’m throwing out my guesses!
:in my movie voice:
1. Underworld
2. Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
3. Beauty and the Beast
4. Haywire
5. Contraband

Mrs. Beast’s picks for the weekend of January 20 – 22, 2012:
1. Underworld
2. Extremely Loud
3. Contraband
4. Red Tails
5. Haywire

And we’re all in at the Beast family…..

And William, I agree on your future low score.

Monty says:
1) Underworld 4
2) Haywire
3) Red Tails
4) Contraband
5) Loud & Close

and I counter with:

1) Underworld 4- cause sometimes my tweets are right. Or at least that’s what I want Andrew to think.
2) Red Tails- cause even Monty wants to see this,. That’s some marketing/awareness right there.
3) Contraband- cause I have no faith that the better action movie will win, even vs. a second week.
4) Haywire- cause when taking into account Andrew and Relativity, standing right next to him might be safest.
5) Loud & Close- ’cause I think family movies will take a hit when there’s bad weather (see also, B&tB3D)

My picks for 1/20-1/22

1. Underworld: Awakening
2. Red Tails
3. Contraband
4. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
5. Beauty & The Beast 3D
