Of the 3 new movies this week, I’m sure one will do well (tho it may not be the obvious pick) and the other two… scare me. I think there will be a jumble around the 4 5 6 7 & 8 slots that makes the last couple picks a duck hunt….

1) Mama- yeah, you heard me. And fwiw, I would have picked Texas Chainsaw #1 if I’d remembered before Saturday night that week. (No, really!) Why? Horror is consistent, while movies that look good in trailers but are released in January usually have something wrong in them….

2) Zero Dark Thirty- rolls on, w/ last week’s win and the strength of the Oscar noms.

3) Silver Linings Playbook- finally expanding plus oscar noms means it does well, tho maybe not #3, close to it… (and I’ve realized that screens b/w 2600 and 3300 are roughly the same in terms of market saturation, so roughly equal, I think.)

4) Broken City- I hate picking even one of the other two newbies, both smell of tanking to me, but this is January, the dumping season. And last weeks dumpings will one, drop a LOT (Haunted House) and two , do no better with direct competition (Gangster Squad)

5) The Last Stand- oh, I hate putting this second newbie in here, but like I said, a jumble in this arena. The tie-breaker went to the new one I’d watch first on video (Broken City by a nose) and then this. This week could hurt!

havent listened to the show but making my picks quick .

1) Mama – lots of people want the safe scary and this has had advertising everywhere, think it’s going to pull first
2) Zero Dark Thirty
3) Broken City – don’t recall seeing one ad for this, but I’ve been pursaded by arguments that Wahlberg has more star attraction power right now then…
4) The Last Stand – Schwarzenegger. It’s been 10 years since he stared in anything. Think it’s going to take a while before he gets his mojo back, if ever.
5) Silver Linings Playbook – The oscar curious will probably see this one now that it’s going wide, but I don’t think it will storm the charts to number one. gangster Squad my stay in the top 5 but I’m chancing it wont.

Definitely my worst ever, I think. Last Stand Dylan Dogged us all. net to that, not putting Mama in first is nothing.
