FBSD Episode 29: Riding with the Ghost Rider

Johnny Blaze is the Spirit of Vengence.

We have a guest host today as we discuss the new film Ghost Rider.

Another Pubcast, this one seemed to have a better sound than some of our previous ventures.

We also chat about some of other comic book based movies that Marvel has coming out in the next year or so.

Somehow we also pull the conversation back from ending the show to a discussion about this weekend’s Oscars.

Don’t forget to check back here this weekend for my pick for the Best Picture Oscar after I spend all day Saturday watching the five nominated films… all five… one day… bucket after bucket of popcorn and soda.

We also make the announcement official and discuss the changes that are going to be coming to the podcast and the feed.

Join in on the conversation!

Well, I had pretty much written off Ghost Rider after the 20something% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. I was surprised how up on it you guys turned out to me and that means a lot to me. I doubt I’ll catch it in the theater as I find it hard to drag myself out to the movies anymore (although I will be catching 300 for certain). But, I will certainly put it in the Blockbuster Queue for the future.

As for the Nicholas Cage as Elvis impersonator movie, you already know by now, but I’m pretty sure that was 3000 Miles to Graceland.

That’s an interesting take on ensemble cast movies doing better with the awards.

In reality, all of these award shows are just glorified trade show awards where the actors and directors congratulate themselves. The only reason people pay attention to these shows is because people see the movies.

You don’t ever see the National Council of Librarians hosting the Librarian of the Year presentation on prime time television, even though it is essentially the same thing. Which is just one of the many reasons I really take know interest in all these award shows.

I’m glad to hear that I wasn’t the only one that liked it. I took my whole family, and we all enjoyed it. I completely agree that the dialogue wasn’t the best. It sounded like stereotypical comic book fare. The only thing missing from it would have been somebody saying “I’ll get you if it’s the last thing I do!” If you are able to overlook that, I think you would have to agree that “Ghost Rider” is a fun movie.
