FBSD Episode 056: Escape From New York

Tony and Adam discuss the past and proposed future of John Carpenter’s Escape From New York.

During the course of the episode they also discuss how the feel of Escape from LA differed from Escape From New York and how they each speak to the era in film when they were produced.

If you are getting this before 5 PM April 16th, 2008, there is still time to enter the Netflix Contest!

Next week’s episode: There Will Be Blood (not that we are going to have a cage match, we’re talking about the flick with that title)

HI GUYS
GREAT SHOW. ON SHOW 56, ESCAPE FOR NEW YORK, I THINK YOU’RE RIGHT ABOUT THE LEVELS OF VIOLENCE AND ACTION IN MOVIES IN THE 80,S , 90,S AND EVEN NOW… MOSTLY. I PERSONALLY BELIEVE THE BIG GUNS BIG MUSCLE ERA ENDED IN THE LATE 80,S WITH LETHAL WEAPON AND DIE HARD. MARTIN RIGGS IN HIS FINAL FIGHT, WHERE HE AND HIS OPPONENT ARE EXHAUSTED OR JOHN MCCLAIN PULLING GLASS OUT OF HIS SHOELESS FEET AFTER A SHOOT OUT ARE INTENSE, NON-OVER THE TOP ACTION FILMS. AND IF YOU REMEMBER DURING THE 90,S OLD ARNOLD COULD BARELY MAKE A BLOCKBUSTER MOVIE THAT DIDN’T HAVE TERMINATOR IN THE TITLE. ERASER ANYONE. THE PENDELEM SWUNG BACK WITH THE MATRIX OF COURSE. FOR A WHILE EVERYONE HAD TO FLY OR DO AMAZING FLIPS. YES, I DO COUNT “CASINO ROYALE” AMONG THEM (THE SKY SCRAPER SEQUENCE). BUT IT WAS SUPER COOL, THOUGH.
IT SEEMS, EVERY 8 OR 10 YEARS WE WANT A DIFFERENT KIND OF ACTION. IT LOOKS LIKE NOW, WITH THE BORNE FILMS THE GOOD OLE TOUGH GUY IS BACK. I KIND OF ENJOY THEM BOTH.

PS

I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT, AT THE END OF ESCAPE FOR NEW YORK, WHEN HE RIPS UP THE AUDIO TAPE ITS BECAUSE, EVERYONE IN HIS EYES …AH, EYE, WHO DESERVE TO LIVE DIDN’T. IN SHORT, “ALL THE RAT BASTAGES WHERE ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE WALL, SO SCREW THEM AND THE WORLD”. SO THE END WAS PERFECTLY LOGICAL TO ME.

THANK FOR THE POD GUYS
ME
