Okay, picks this week are going to be difficult. Time for me to make some poorly informed predictions:

1. Kung Fu Panda 2 – that Bear is going to kick butt
2. Pirates of the Caribbean – I suppose this could be weaker then I expect and come in third, but something tells me to bet on priates over…
3. Hangover 2 – previews haven’t exactly been overwhelming and neither have some reviews I’ve seen. A lot of families are going to be seeing movies this weekend and this isn’t much of a family movie. The movie might have staying power if it turns out to be good but I think the competition is going to get it this week.
4. Bridesmaids
5. Thor – had a hard time deciding between Bridesmaids and Thor for 4th and 5th. I’m worried that Hangover is going to steal some of Bridesmaids thunder and I’m thinking Thor is going to stay right about where he’s at for the week. Flip of the coin puts Bridesmaids 4th and Thor 5th.

First, before I forget, Tony, excellent show. I thought it was a good way to handle the large number of common guesses on the box office.

Now, on to the main event.

1) Kung Fu Panda 2 – You cannot stop the Dragon Warrior. I agree with Cougron on the strength of this film on Memorial Day weekend. This is well-placed on the calendar, and I expect that it will do some Panda-style kung-fu to the other competitors for #1.

2) Hangover 2 – I’m going to have to act like Po from the previous movie, and go with my gut on Hangover 2. I can’t really explain, but it seems more likely in my mind.

3) Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides – Captain Jack don’t go down that easy, matey.

4) Bridesmaids – Let’s see how this does in the face of the sequel to the film that spawned it. My money is heavy drop, particularly when combined with a kids-friendly film looking so strong.

5) Thor – Much like Cougron, I am conflicted on the position of the Thunder God in regards to Bridesmaids. It isn’t doing badly, but I think it’s time has come to slide out of the top 5. It will beat out Priest though.

That’s all I know, and I’m sticking to it.

Thanks, Uriah. I have a feeling that this week’s show will be similar. Of the 5 (including what the hosts recorded last night) sets of picks I’ve seen for this weekend, 4 of them are EXACTLY the same. Summer season could get a bit predictable that way with huge blockbusters coming in each week to bump everything else down from previous weeks.

I may have to take back what I said last week about picking #1 being easy, I wasn’t at all certain this week.

1) Kung Fu Panda 2- the first one opened at $60 mil, and that wasn’t Memorial Day weekend

2) Pirates of the Caribbean 4- all of my picks are based on the guess that Pirates will fall 50% or less, If it all goes horribly wrong, this one is why.

3) Hangover 2- less screens than the first two, no 3D, less buzz, and the first opened at about $45 mil. I don’t think this one beats that mark and Pirates.

4) Bridesmaids- I don’t think Hangover 2 robs this one all that much, and it hangs on for 4th place.

5) Thor- it’s losing screens, but even a 60% drop is about 6.16 mil. (616? That’s kind of a sign….)

it looks like another week where we are all kicking around the same 5 movies, but in different order.

My picks for the weekend of May 27-30, 2011:
1. The Hangover Part ii
2. Kung Fu Panda 2
3. Pirates 4
4. Thor
5. Bridesmaids

I’m pretty sure on the first 3, not so much on the bottom 2.

And also Menolly’s picks for the weekend of May 27-30, 2011:
1. Pirates 4
2. Kung Fu Panda 2
3. Hangover ii
4. Thor
5. Bridesmaids

There is a voice mail coming, we just haven’t sent it in yet. it has the same picks, though.
