Well, looking at the state of things at the box office, I had best get my picks in.

1) Hangover 2 – Like that grand cosmic force that Einstein claimed dictates so much behavior, the gravity of Hangover 2 at the box office is going to keep it on top. Broader appeal than the new release, and a strong start for a movie whose prequel rocked out a couple years ago, this means $$.

2) X-Men: First Class – Probably going to trump Kung Fu Panda 2. Unless it is horrible, (Highly possible given the bad rap the X-Men franchise has)I expect this will likely stay in the top 5 for a while, but after opening weekend, sit at the bottom.

3) Kung Fu Panda 2 – Sad panda. This will likely stick around in the top 5 for the same reasons Rio did. Good kids movies are hard to find.

4) Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides – Captain Jack will linger for a bit. Why? Because he’s Captain Jack Sparrow, that’s why.

5) Bridesmaids – Unique appeal and an interesting counterpoint to Hangover 2. That’s just a guess though.

And away we go. Summer movie madness is going full-tilt boogie now. No stopping to breathe until August.

I suspect the results show will have a lot of common picks again this week.

1) X-Men First Class– I can’t not pick this #1, I’ve been an X-Men fan for a loooong time, and this is the most “X-Men” looking movie yet.

2) Hangover 2– I’m wondering if the strong showing here is a 3D thing, as in this isn’t in 3D. Same goes for the surprise of Fast Five. Or maybe it’s just that everyone who wanted to see it now already has.

3) KungFu Panda 2– And I’m wondering how many parents said “3D? No, I’ll buy you the DVD, it’ll be cheaper” Or maybe it was just that everyone with kids was out of town for the weekend.

4) Pirates 4– still has a ton of screens, and word seems to be that its decent summer fare.

5) Bridesmaids– might have the legs that the first Hangover did.

3)

I’m late with my poorly informed predictions but I find my choices are exactly the same as the Producers:

1) X-Men: First Class – I think opening at #1 is a mutant power…
2) The Hangover Part II – This movie is still drunk with power but the hangover is going to bring it down one this week.
3) Kung-Fu Panda 2 – the panda really let me down last time. I don’t see any reason that he’ll recover
4) Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides – Pirates versus Ninja…err…Kung-Fu : Kung-Fu wins.
5) Bridesmaids – someones got to take fifth…

The cupcakes tell me that the hosts are right.

1. X-Men: First Class
2. The Hangover Part II
3. Kung-Fu Panda 2
4. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
5. Bridesmaids
