I really don’t feel like making picks this week, I have no real feel for how the new movies are going to slot in or how some of the old movies are going to fare against them. Guess I’ll just close my eyes and go ahead with my picks anyways:

1) Transformers: Dark of the Moon – I don’t see anything challenging Optimus this week…
2) Horrible Bosses – I didn’t hear anything about this movie until a few weeks ago when suddenly Ads started appearing _everywhere_. I figure the big marketing push is enough to get it far. The only question is whether it will be 2nd or 3rd versus…
3) Zookeeper – This looks stupid but some of the trailers/ads are funny so it should do good enough. It opens in more theaters then Horrible Bosses but I’m hoping the better movie wins out.
4) Cars 2 – Oh how the mighty have fallen 🙁
5) Bad Teacher – it was either this or Larry Crowne and Bad Teacher did better last week.

Someone told me that if you change the tone after the first forty-five minutes of a film, you betray the audience. You have the first third roughly, to establish the tone and feel of the picture. I don’t know if that’s true, but that might be a way determine the merits of the train sequence in Super 8.

too many picks that are too close to do anything but toss a coin this week
1) Transformers 3- holds the spot until the Potter machine arrives
2)Horrible Bosses– looks better, but fewer screens, and I hate underestimating talking animals. Still, this is a lot like Bad Teacher, and that did $30 mil
3) Zoopkeeper- it’s PG and has talking animals, so it could do well. But the thing that I think everyone forgets is that while Paul Blart was a surprise hit, it was released in JANUARY.
4)Cars 2- weak offerings from Pixar fall fast, it seems.
5) Bad Teacher- a risk b/c Horrible Bosses might steal the audience, but I don’t think Larry Crowne has the numbers to fall less steeply than this one.

1. Transformers: Dark of the Moon
2. Zookeeper
3. Horrible Bosses
4. Cars 2
5. Bad Teacher

I will be open jawed astonished if zookeeper makes it above #4 this weekend. it just looks like such trash….

1. Transformers: Dark Of The Moon
2. Horrible Bosses. Remake of 9 to 5
3. Cars 2

5. Bad Teacher

just under the wire.
Menolly’s picks for July 8 – 10, 2011:
1. Transformers 3
2. Zookeeper
3. Horrible Bosses
