My picks for the weekend of November 18 – 20, 2011:
1. Breaking Dawn
2. Happy Feet
3. Immortals
4. Puss In Boots
5. Jack And Jill

It’s the week for sober, straightforward picks. I was going to put sandler as 4 and puss as 5, but6 then I remembered just how much the cat is holding on. it may even be #3.

Oh, and let me be the first to congratulate Andrew for picking Tyrannosaur as his number one pick on his voice mail.

1) Breaking Dawn: Part 1 – Twi-hard powers, activate! For my opinion on these movies, see The Oatmeal – http://theoatmeal.com/story/twilight

That description pretty well sums it up.

2) Happy Feet 2 – Cute dancing penguins. Of course kids will see it.

3) Immortals – Curse you Relativity Studios!

4) Jack & Jill – While this huge bag of un-modified suck is apparently putting butts in seats, I cannot comprehend how. Does Adam Sandler have a hugely expensive illicit narcotic habit to support? Or perhaps some paternity suits to settle? Oh, wait, he’s too old to have that problem; only Justin Bieber has to worry about that. Sandler has made good movies, and good funny movies before, even ones with crummy jokes, but the whole cross-dressing/simultaneous character thing has been done by funnier people (Eddie Murphy) better earlier.

5) Puss in Boots – While I agree with Pere Bete (Father Beast) that Puss has legs, I think it will lose more ground to the rise of Happy Feet’s dancing penguins than Jack & Jill will lose to the fact that it is stupid.

And, as an addendum to my never-ending disgust with Twilight, I add the following quote, often attributed to Stephen King, but not actually his:

“Harry Potter is about confronting fears, finding inner strength and doing what is right in the face of adversity. Twilight is about how important it is to have a boyfriend.”

Pleased to be of service, BD. If you find the quote funny, check out the link to the Oatmeal. While rather profane, it does accurately describe Twilight.

Uriah- I did check out the link. I thought it was very funny (can’t speak to accuracy, having not seen/read any of the stuff. Fortunately 🙂 )
