Wow, seems kinda quiet around here- maybe this is what the term ‘dog days of summer’ is for. At least for movies.

Of the new releases, I think only Premium Rush has any chance of cracking the top 5; I kinda fear for our intrepid hosts’ picks. (I think that expanding movies with high screen averages mostly dilute rather than carry the $$ forward. Like dropping sugar into a larger tank of water, it doesn’t get any sweeter, all the people wanting the taste were already at the cube.)
So, on to the picks:

1) Expendables 2- I can’t believe I’m typing this. Especially in it’s second week. Kudos to whoever set the calendar at the studio.

2) The Bourne Legacy- holds on for people who don’t want to see Expendables 2.

3) ParaNorman- only kids movie in contention, lower drop.

4) Premium Rush- it might be risky to put it even this high, esp. given the low screen count, but viewers on RT seem to like it.

5) The Campaign- might have a less than half fall this week due to the weak new offerings, and it could even take #4. Heck, Dark Knight Rises could end up here.

I’m in a rush, but not to pick Premium Rush to finish very well. I’m going to ditty BD.

Yes, you heard me, I said ditty. 😛

Hi! Did you like last week? I decided I had to do something crazy for the weekend I was moving down to college. Sorry bout that…
My picks for the weekend of August 24-26 are:

1. The Expendables 2
2. Hit and Run
3. Bourne Legacy
4. Paranorman
5. The Apparition

Wow, looks like I lead the ditto/y tally this week- I hope it works out well, and not like a Jonathan ditty… (based on Friday estimates, ummm maybe?)

My picks for the weekend of August 31 – September 2, 2012:
1. Possession
2. Expendables
3. Bourne
4. Paranorman
5. Dark Knight

Hope I don’t have another negative score….

Mrs. Beast’s picks for the weekend of August 31 – September 2, 2012:
1. Expendables 2
2. Lawless
3. Bourne Legacy
4. Paranorman
5. The Possession

She says she was tempted to just leave last weeks top 5 as this weeks top 5, but reconsidered.

Tad-
Yes, there was blood on the boards after that one. Well, unless you ditto-ed me, that seemed to work out ok-ish 😛

Anyone want to double down?

1) Lawless- lots of interest and (slightly) more theaters than my #2 pick means this should top $10 million and get #1 (and I really want to see it.)

2)The Possession- seems to have some buzz? I expect this to also top $10, and could take #1.

3) Expendables 2- around $7 million, I think, average drop.

4) ParaNorman- close to Bourne, and losing fewer theaters, added to the slower drop rate for kids movies.

5) Bourne Legacy- Lawless bleeds it a bit, plus the typical drop, and it falls to #5. Will Labor Day Dark Knight watchers bump that back up to the top 5? Maybe; the rest of the list are closely clustered but old (and falling; 2016 will also lose it’s RNC bump. Not that the movie’s numbers are reported or anything.)

Okay, for the weekend of August 31, to September 2
1. Expendables 2
2. Bourne Legacy
3. Paranorman
4. Lawless
5. The Possesion

I’m willing to make the big leaps. Fun weekend last one, wasn’t it. So fun. 🙂
