Merry Christmas from the Back Seat

I had the great pleasure of providing my voice for Ideology of Madness and Knights of Reignsborough’s Christmas special Saints of Reignsborough.

While the BSP crew is taking a few weeks off to hang out with our families and enjoy sugar plums and whatnot, we wanted to make sure that those of you who are still commuting, wrapping presents, taking down trees or sleeping off holiday hangovers still have something new to listen to.

The first few minutes includes clips from the original sandboxing sessions that created the character of Father Dominic Argento.  After that is the story that I read.  I hope you enjoy it half as much as I enjoyed reading it and voicing the characters in the story.

Whatever holiday you celebrate this season, enjoy it.  I’ll be enjoying a Merry Christmas and tipping back some peppermint schnaaps in a candy cane shotglass… as you probably already guessed.

BSP Episode 292: Blazing Saddles – We Just Watched a Movie

Show notes are blatantly stolen from the post for this episode on The Way of the Game site.

Blazing Saddles – February 7, 1974

Director: Mel Brooks
Producer: Michael Hertzberg
Writers: Andrew Bergman, Mel Brooks, Richard Pryor, Norman Steinberg, Al Uger
Actors: Cleavon Little, Gene Wilder, Harvey Korman, Slim Pickens, Madeline Kahn, Mel Brooks, Dom DeLuise
Distributor: Warner Bros.

The course of the conversation:

This is a combo-episode, inspired by and releasing for the Back Seat Producers as well.

Sausagefest is discussed.  You can continue to donate at sausagefeststl.com.

We were asked to respond to a past BSP episode.  Jonathan’s been holding a grudge about Blazing Saddles for a while.

Jonathan explains We Just Watched a Movie a bit.

When did you first experience Mel Brooks and or Blazing Saddles?

In defense of Gene Wilder.

Madeline Kahn is simply incredible.

Slim Pickens walks a tight rope.

The guys talk about racism.  Shocking.

Jonathan diverges into talking about The Simpsons.

Jonathan diverges into talking about Penny Arcade.

Racism seems much more prominent today than when BSP was recording.

It’s too bad this movie couldn’t be made today.

Mel Brooks is at his best when he parodies a genre, not a specific movie.

Jonathan diverges into talking about Grand Theft Auto 5.

The Way of the Game would like to apologize to our listeners for Nathaniel.

BSP Special Episode 16: We Just Watched A Movie – Some Like It Hot

So, no… this is NOT an episode of Back Seat Producers.

Longtime listeners of BSP or BSBO might recognize Jonathan ‘The Stingray’ Holmberg as one of the hosts here.

We Just Watched a Movie is another movie review podcast who is less jackassy and more organized than BSP.  I make it a point to listen to very few movie review podcasts and this is one of them that I never miss.

Give these guys a listen and if you like what you hear, make sure you let them know that you enjoyed them in the Back Seat.  Seriously… make sure you say that exactly.  “You guys were awesome when I found you in the Back Seat!”

We’ll be back (hopefully) next week with Django Unchained.

BSP Special Episode 12: Villains

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AFI’s_100_Years…_100_Heroes_and_Villains

This is one we’ve been sitting on for a while… that might be an understatement.

This episode was recorded: 9/24/08.

For those keeping score, David was still Adam, Darrell had yet to join the crew, and this would have been episode #78.

We hope you had a great Easter weekend… this episode released at this time means that Tony didn’t spend part of his vacation editing audio.

One final note, this past Saturday, April 23rd 2011, Fanboy Smackdown/Back Seat Producers celebrated the 5th anniversary of the recording of the first episode. We didn’t release the episode for another week.  The episode we’ll record this week is our Anniversary episode.  Thanks for listening!
